Cape May Firehouse Construction Update
The new Cape May firehouse is getting closer to its completion. This week crews have been working on getting the siding up prior to this weekend’s bone-chilling temperatures.
Back in 2021, The city of Cape May approved a $5 million contract for the construction of a new firehouse. The new facility will replace the aging current fire station and provide improved services and resources for the community.
The old firehouse, which was built in the 1970s, had become outdated and no longer met the needs of the fire department. The building was in poor condition and posed a safety risk to the firefighters who used it. In addition, the layout of the building was not designed to accommodate the modern firefighting equipment and technology that is now in use.
The decision to demolish the old firehouse and build a new one was made after careful consideration and consultation with local residents, the fire department, and government officials.
The new firehouse was designed to meet the latest standards for firefighting facilities, with state-of-the-art equipment and technology.
The demolition of the old Cape May firehouse had begun in the fall making way for the new facility which is expected to be completed by May 2023.
The new firehouse will be constructed on the same site as the old one, making it easily accessible to the community it serves. The building will be a modern, energy-efficient facility, with an emphasis on safety and comfort for the firefighters who will work there.

Blueprints show that the new garage will accommodate four fire trucks, four ambulances, and two pick-up trucks.
The new firehouse will have several important features, including a large training room where firefighters can receive ongoing training and education, a large kitchen and dining area, 12 beds, and a gym.
While the firehouse is under construction crews will be temporarily nearby.
