 The Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office has announced the heartbreaking loss of Detective Sergeant Monica Mosley, a beloved and respected member of the law enforcement community.

Detective Sergeant Mosley, who began her career with the Prosecutor’s Office in 2006, passed away unexpectedly after a tragic incident in Bridgeton.

On the evening of her death, Bridgeton Police were called to the 600 block of Buckshutem Road around 10:30 p.m. for a report of several individuals kicking in the front door of a home.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 51-year-old Monica Mosley, who had sustained a gunshot wound.

Despite their efforts, Mosley, a sergeant with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, tragically succumbed to her injuries at the scene.

The investigation into the incident quickly developed, leading officers to Inspira Hospital in Bridgeton, and later to Cooper University Hospital in Camden.

There, New Jersey State Police troopers detained a person for questioning who had been treated for a gunshot wound.

Sergeant Mosley’s career with the Prosecutor’s Office spanned nearly two decades, beginning as a paralegal specialist. In 2009, she transitioned to the role of County Detective, where she continued to rise through the ranks, eventually becoming a Detective Sergeant.

Throughout her career, Mosley worked in multiple units, including the Trial Teams, Special Victims Unit, Community Justice Unit, and the Professional Standards Unit, where she served as the Unit Supervisor.

Her colleagues remember her not only for her commitment to justice but also for the kindness and mentorship she provided to those around her. “Sergeant Mosley was a constant friend and role model for all those with whom she served and led,” stated Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae. “She served our community with honor, dignity, and respect before her untimely passing. She will be missed more than words can detail, but she will never be forgotten by her CCO family.”

The office expressed gratitude to local and state law enforcement agencies, including the Bridgeton Police Department, New Jersey State Police Major Crimes Unit, and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, for their support in bringing justice to those responsible for Sergeant Mosley’s death.

The passing of Sergeant Mosley leaves a void in the hearts of the men and women of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

In their statement, they emphasized their commitment to honoring her memory: “We are resolute in making sure that Monica is remembered for who she was, how she lived, and how she touched each of our lives.”
