Did You Know Little Richard Once Performed In Wildwood?
Unfortunately today it was announced that Rock and Roll super star, Little Richard had passed at the age of 87. It wasn’t covid-19 related.
But did you know that he once performed in the Wildwoods?
The Wildwoods from the 1950s through the late 1970s was considered the Little Vegas of the East Coast. Celebrities from all around the world would come here to perform in our night clubs. Elton John, Kiss, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes and Ella Fitzgerald to name a few, had performed down here.
In July of 1957, Little Richard performed at Ben Martin’s Mardigras, which was located at New Jersey and Oak Ave. At this time he was only known for the songs, “Rip It Up” and “Jenny Jenny.”
This wasn’t the only time he visited the Wildwoods. In August 1970, Little Richard performed at the Stardust. This building still stands today. He rocked the stage from August 6th through the 12th with sold-out crowds.
