While the Southern states are preparing for a hurricane, South Jersey is preparing for another event, a demolition.
Former BL England Cooling Tower To Be Demolished This Week
The Former BL England Cooling Tower, located in the back bays of Marmora, New Jersey, has been shuttered since 2019 after the closing of the B.L. England Generating Station.
While planning for the demolition of the plant had been underway since its closing, in November 2021, the land was purchased by “Beesleys Point Development LLC.”
The LLC wanted to take the land and create a marina with shops, restaurants, a hotel, and a boardwalk. While the price for the sale of the land was never announced it was revealed that the demolition of the structures sat at the price tag of $13 + million.
Their hope is to have the land completely cleared by 2024.
In order to do that they need to remove the existing cooling tower. The demolition of the BL England Cooling Tower will take place on Thursday, September 29th at 9:30 am (Weather permitting).
Designated public viewing points have not been defined though there are many great places to view the event safely.
Note public access (fishing pier) to the property will not be permitted with boat traffic under Coast Guard jurisdiction. Please see below the “Exclusion Zone” related to the event workplan. Boating traffic, once again regulated by the Coast Guard, is asked to take note of the exclusion zone within the water area.
With winds predicted to be North by North-East at 15-25 mph, the Wildwood Video Archive has made the decision to not fly our drones. This plus the fact that there is no possible point of view creates dangerous flying conditions for any certified UAV pilot.
We do hope to have some videos of the imposition on our Facebook pages later in the day.
Stay tuned for more updates.
