Jersey Mike’s Opens in Cape May Court House
Jersey Mike’s Subs, the fast-growing sandwich chain with deep roots along the Jersey Shore, officially opened its new location on November 5 in Cape May County.
The shop sits at 11 Court House South Dennis Road in The Plaza shopping center, filling the former T-Mobile space between the Acme supermarket and Cape Regional Urgent Care.

Construction crews completed the installation of the familiar red-and-blue signage only a week before the doors opened, signaling the brand’s arrival in one of the county’s busiest retail corridors.
For Cape May Court House, the administrative and geographic center of the county, Jersey Mike’s adds a new chapter to a growing mix of regional and national retailers.
The Plaza has long served both year-round residents and the seasonal population who pass through on their way to Stone Harbor and the Wildwoods.

The opening comes amid a steady expansion of dining and retail options throughout Middle Township.

Jersey Mike’s story began in 1956 when the first shop opened in Point Pleasant under the name Mike’s Giant Submarine Shop.
Among its teenage employees was Peter Cancro, who started slicing cold cuts there in 1971. Four years later, at age 17, Cancro bought the business for about $125,000 and renamed it Jersey Mike’s Subs. He began franchising the concept in 1987, emphasizing fresh ingredients and the tradition of grilling subs “Mike’s Way.”

The company’s headquarters remain in Manasquan, where Cancro continues to serve as chief executive officer.
The new Cape May Court House location extends that hometown lineage back to the Shore where it began.

With the November 5 opening, the store appears poised to become a regular stop for both residents and vacationers, bringing a taste of New Jersey’s most famous sub shop a little closer to home.
