NASA Rocket Will Be Seen From Cape May Beach Next Week

When you think of watching rocket launches you think of Cocoa Beach in Florida.

Cocoa Beach is world-famous for its fantastic viewing area for all kinds of NASA and SpaceX rocket launches.

A few times of the year, the Cape May Beaches become a viewing area for watching some NASA rocket launches.

On Saturday, February 19th, the Northrop Grumman Corporation Antares rocket will be launched from NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia.

The Wallops Flight Facility may be a 239-mile drive from Cape May Point, but in reality, the facility is only 90 miles away.

Due to the curvature of the earth and the close distance, the rocket launch is a fantastic sight from the beach.

The Antares rocket will be carrying the Cygnus spacecraft. In the spacecraft will be science and supplies that will be delivered to the International Space Station.

The launch will take place during the day at 12:39 p.m. EST. (that is a rough estimate and could change even up to 5 minutes before launch)

For those in the mid-Atlantic region, weather permitting, jump on the NASA visibility map and you can see how many seconds after launch you can see the Antares in the sky.

Live coverage of the mission will be available on the Wallops IBM video site (previously Ustream) beginning at 11:40 p.m. on launch day.

The last time there was a launch from the Wallops Flight Facility visible from Cape May was on February 20th, 2021. This was a similar flight, (Antares NG-15).

This was the fifteenth launch of the Northrop Grumman robotic resupply spacecraft Cygnus and its fourteenth flight to the International Space Station under the Commercial Resupply Services contract with NASA.
