North Wildwood Receives $10.3M Boardwalk Preservation Grant
North Wildwood is poised for a significant revitalization effort following the announcement of a substantial grant for Boardwalk Reconstruction.
On Friday, February 23, city officials received news of a $10.3 million windfall, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing preservation of the Jersey Shore’s iconic boardwalks.
This grant, a slice of the $100 million Boardwalk Preservation Fund championed by New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and key state legislators, is a testament to the collective commitment to preserving the region’s cultural and economic landmarks.
North Wildwood stands to benefit significantly, securing the third-largest award among the 18 municipalities slated for assistance from the fund.
Administered by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, the grant aims to address critical infrastructure needs while bolstering the long-term vitality of Jersey Shore communities.
By investing in cutting-edge materials and sustainable practices, the initiative seeks to ensure the durability and resilience of these beloved coastal promenades.
Funding for the endeavor stems from the American Rescue Plan Coronavirus State & Local Fiscal Recovery Funds, underscoring the broader efforts to support communities grappling with the economic fallout of the pandemic.
Expressing gratitude for the generous allocation, Mayor Patrick Rosenello emphasized the significance of the award for North Wildwood.
“North Wildwood City Council members and I are grateful to be the recipients of one of the largest grant awards in New Jersey,” remarked Mayor Rosenello.
He extended heartfelt appreciation to Governor Murphy for personally delivering the news, highlighting the pivotal role this funding will play in financing the rehabilitation of the city’s renowned “Boardwalk of Fame and Happiness.”
Looking ahead, North Wildwood is gearing up for Phase 1 of Boardwalk Reconstruction, slated to commence this upcoming fall. With anticipation building and community support rallying behind this transformative endeavor, the city is poised to embark on a journey toward renewed vibrancy and resilience.

The Wildwood Video Archive stopped by the first section of the boardwalk where this contraction will take place, which is between 16th and 18th street.
This section hasn’t seen a major overhaul in decades and is the closest part of the boardwalk that is near the ocean due to erosion.
The WVA filmed an entire drone video showcasing this section which you can watch below.
As the first steps are taken toward revitalizing this cherished landmark, North Wildwood stands as a beacon of hope and progress on the Jersey Shore.
