Scoop DeVille Opens on the Wildwood Boardwalk
There is yet another legendary Philadelphia establishment coming down to the Wildwood boardwalk, Scoop DeVille.
Scoop DeVille, which started in Philadelphia back in 1989, has a very unique way of blending ice cream and toppings together to create a completely different ice cream experience.
The original flagship store is located at 1109 Walnut Street, but the company has expanded over the years to South Street and Haddon Township. Now, you can also find them here in Wildwood at 20th Street and the boardwalk.
Unlike a traditional ice cream shop where toppings are simply placed on top of a cone or cup, Scoop DeVille is known for fully blending candies, cookies, cereals, brownies, sauces, and other mix-ins directly into the ice cream right in front of customers, in this case, on the side.
The process creates a much thicker and more customized dessert that feels closer to a made-to-order creation than a normal scoop shop experience.
And their blending machine is not what you might expect.
Instead of using a traditional mixer, Scoop DeVille uses large stainless steel blending machines equipped with giant corkscrew-style augers that drill directly into the ice cream.
Workers first fill the cup with ice cream before the spinning auger drills down through the center, this leaves a space for your toppings, and then they blend the toppings and sauces directly throughout the dessert.

As the machine spins, the blended ice cream slowly rises back upward through the cup, giving it a thick texture that almost resembles soft serve.
The result is a dessert where every bite contains toppings mixed throughout rather than everything simply sitting on the very top.
The menu itself is also very different from what you would normally find at a typical boardwalk ice cream stand.
Instead of basic vanilla and chocolate sundaes, Scoop DeVille has built its reputation around massive signature blends and layered “Stacker Sundaes” with names inspired by Philadelphia culture and over-the-top dessert combinations.
Some of their signature blends include creations like the “PB Dough Boi Crunch,” which combines vanilla ice cream with Oreos, cookie dough, peanut butter, Cap’n Crunch, and peanut butter cups, along with the “Cookie Monster 2.0,” made with blue vanilla ice cream, Oreos, and cookie dough.
Other menu items include “Charlie Manuel,” “PHL Nonstop,” “Boardwalk Carnival,” “Kite & Key Lime,” “Sweet N Salty,” and “Give Me Samoa Lovin’.”
In the example you see in this article is the Charlie Manuel.
In addition to their signature blends, the Wildwood location also carries milkshakes, vegan shakes, frozen yogurt, dipped bananas, vegan blends, vegan sundaes, and customizable desserts.
Some of the vegan menu choices include flavors like “Philly Samoa Lovin’,” “PB Crunch Time,” and “Cookie Crumble.” Their milkshake menu also includes combinations like “Banana Nutella,” “Biscoff Cookie,” and “Boston Cream Pie.”
You may recall that last summer, on the same block, another legendary Philadelphia establishment opened, called John’s Water Ice.
For this season, John’s Water Ice split their building space to accommodate both themselves and Scoop DeVille.
As it turns out, the same owner who franchised John’s Water Ice is also franchising Scoop DeVille in Wildwood.
So now you can get some John’s Water Ice or Scoop DeVille Ice Cream by walking 5 steps to the left or right.
Will you give them a try this summer?
