And yes, that also means the return of one of the most iconic phrases at the Jersey Shore… “Watch the Tram Car Please.”

This year marks the 78th season of the Sightseer Tram Cars, which have been carrying families up and down the boardwalk for generations. The tram spans the entire 2 mile stretch of the Wildwoods Boardwalk, connecting everything from the amusement piers to shops, restaurants, and beach access points.

What a lot of people may not realize is just how deep the history goes. The tram cars date back to 1939, when they first operated at the World’s Fair in New York under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. About a decade later, in 1949, they made their way to the Wildwoods, where they’ve been a staple ever since.

To start the season, tram service will run on Saturdays and Sundays beginning May 9 through May 17, with rides starting at noon.

Once Memorial Day Weekend arrives, things ramp up. Service will run from Friday, May 22 through Monday, May 25, also starting at noon and continuing after Morey’s Piers close.

Then beginning Thursday, May 28, the tram cars will operate daily, running seven days a week all the way through Labor Day Weekend, following the Morey’s Piers schedule.

A one way ride on the tram will cost $5. Riders can also purchase discount ticket books along the boardwalk or grab an unlimited ride wristband, which is valid until 5 p.m. on the day of purchase.

Tickets and wristbands are available directly on the tram, at the Cresse Avenue ticket office, the 16th Avenue kiosk, and at multiple locations across Morey’s Piers.

At the end of the day, the Sightseer Tram Car is more than just transportation. It’s part of the Wildwood experience.

Whether you’re heading to grab food, jumping between piers, or just taking in the atmosphere, riding the tram is something that generations of families have made part of their summer tradition.

And in just a few days, that tradition officially rolls back onto the boardwalk.

Wildwood Boardwalk is slowly coming back to life with just this past weekend, we got to see Maury’s Piers open up Mariner’s Pier, or as those like to refer to as the pier with the giant Ferris wheel.
