Small Fire On the Atlantic City Boardwalk
The Atlantic City Police Department noticed something unusual at around 5:40 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd. While on patrol, officers spotted fire coming from underneath the Boardwalk at New Jersey Avenue and promptly informed the Atlantic City Fire Department.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that debris had caught fire beneath the Boardwalk.
Thankfully, the firefighting crew was able to contain the fire within an hour and managed to bring it under control by 6:30 p.m. Despite the fire being contained, the firefighters stayed on the scene throughout the night to ensure that there were no remaining hot spots that could reignite the fire.
Unfortunately, one of the firefighters sustained a minor injury while combating the fire.
Although the firefighting team was able to prevent the fire from spreading, a section of the Boardwalk sustained damage and will require replacement.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation though it has been noted that there was a homeless encampment located just under the boardwalk where the fire took place.
While not confirmed, it is believed that someone had set a small fire under the boardwalk to keep warm and the small fire grew too large in scale.
Nevertheless, the quick response of the Atlantic City Police Department and the Atlantic City Fire Department helped to limit the extent of the damage and prevent any serious harm to the community.
