The news, shared via a post on the restaurant’s official Facebook page, confirmed not only the comeback date but also a preview of its operating hours and customer service policies:
“Yes, it’s true, the Salty Mermaid 🧜🏼♀️ is back!

We are looking forward to seeing all of you again. 🧜🏼♀️💗

Additional clarifications were added shortly after the announcement to answer common customer questions:
- The Salty Mermaid will honor all previously issued gift cards that were not refunded at the time of the 2023 closure.
- However, gift cards from the location’s former tenant—Ocean Bay Coastal Grille & Bar—will not be accepted, as the businesses are not affiliated.
- The restaurant does have a liquor license, meaning the return of its popular cocktail offerings.
- While breakfast will not be served at this time, the menu will include gluten-free options for guests with dietary restrictions.

Originally closing in 2023 after several successful seasons, the Salty Mermaid had built a strong following for its breezy dockside ambiance, seafood-driven menu, and relaxed bar atmosphere.
In 2024, the space was rebranded under new ownership as Ocean Bay Coastal Grille & Bar, which operated briefly before being put up for sale in late 2024.
As reported by Wildwood Video Archive in December, the Ocean Bay’s signage was removed, and speculation grew that Salty Mermaid could return since their original sign was hanging.
It was later clarified that this sign had always been under the Ocean Bay signage. That now is clarified that yes they are reopening.
The confirmation of the Salty Mermaid’s return has been met with enthusiasm from locals and summer regulars alike.
As people like Lynne Deaugustine said, “Yay the best coconut shrimp and chowder!” and Colleen Spinelli who said “This is the Best News”
With its return to familiar ownership and a customer-focused reopening strategy, the restaurant is expected to once again become a highlight of North Wildwood’s bayfront dining scene.
