The Wildwoods Are Open!
In the early hours of this morning, Atlantic City Electric proudly announced the restoration of 99% of power in the Wildwoods region. After initially extending the estimated restoration time from midnight to 6AM, they turned to Facebook to deliver the good news.
Their message read, “We have successfully restored service for all customers affected by the fire at our Lake Avenue substation in Wildwood. We understand the challenges this event has posed to our customers and vacationers on the island, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding while we worked diligently to restore service.
They need by saying “Our gratitude goes out to our dedicated crews, operations teams, and all the supporting personnel, including local contractors, who contributed to this effort.”
If you know of any power outages in your area, you can report it by calling, 800-833-7476
So, what does this mean going forward?
Although full power has been restored on the island, not all businesses are operating at 100% capacity just yet. Due to the power outage lasting over 30 hours, some restaurants have lost their perishable food supplies and are awaiting new deliveries or for their coolers to reach suitable temperatures.

Before heading out, we recommend contacting your favorite local establishments to verify if they are open for business. As for the Wildwoods Boardwalk, we are happy to report that everything is reportedly open.
Morey’s Piers, in particular, announced at noon that all piers will open as scheduled, but specific ride availability may vary throughout the day. Earlier, they had confirmed the opening of Ocean Oasis at 9:30 AM, with Raging Waters set to resume later in the day.
We, the team at the Wildwood Video Archive, would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible first responders who, under challenging circumstances, ensured the safety and well-being of everyone during this incident. It is their dedication that enabled us to restore power to the island ahead of the initially projected Monday restoration date.
Being a close-knit summer town, we have always watched out for one another. This past weekend, we witnessed ordinary people transforming into heroes.
Some opened their doors to those without power, allowing them to charge their phones in their homes. Others generously donated generators to businesses or individuals in need. It was a true testament to our island’s spirit and sense of community.
At present, it is crucial that our Tri-state area rallies together to provide immense support to the local businesses that have suffered significant losses over the past few days. Since many of these establishments only operate during the summer season, losing three days of business can be incredibly challenging to recover from. We urge you to shop, eat, and play locally to aid their recovery efforts.

Most likely, by Monday, everything will be functioning as if nothing had occurred. However, on a personal note, this weekend will be remembered as a disaster. Numerous failures have been exposed, and they demand our attention.
Chief among them is a severe lack of communication across the board. Apart from the commendable efforts of social media teams who tirelessly provided updates, there was an unsettling silence. This must change.
It is disheartening to learn that many people only became aware of the power outage through Xfinity or social media platforms. Moving forward, it is imperative to establish more transparent channels of communication with the public, providing regular updates on progress, repair efforts, and ways in which individuals can contribute.
