Those Tremors Last Night Were Caused By Fighter Jets
Late last night folks took to social media to say that they felt some kind of strange tremors.
People said it felt like a quick shift and then it was gone. Some folks went as far as to say that their dogs woke up and started howling.
Do not be alarmed! We can tell you exactly what happened.
Yesterday on Facebook the 177th Fighter Wing announced that they would be “conducting night-flying training.”
Those Tremors Last Night Were Caused By Fighter Jets
This is very common down here at the shore since the 177th Fighter Wing has their home at the Atlantic City International Airport.
The 177th Fighter Wing does these kinds of missions so that they can maintain mission capability and combat readiness.
Nicknamed the Jersey Devils, these fighter pilots are one of the 29 original National Guard Observation Squadrons of the United States Army National Guard formed before World War II.
They have been housed at the Atlantic City International Airport since the early 1960s.
Their choice of plane is the F-16C-D Fighting Falcon. It has a maximum speed of 1,345 mph (this is just under a Mach 2 speed)
When they do hit a Mach speed over the ocean it creates a boom. On a cloudy night, like ours, this boom is amplified as the sound waves bounce off the cloud and back down to earth.
