Unsanctioned Wildwood Event CANCELED
The city of Wildwood and the Cape May County Prosecutor’s office has acted quickly to swash an Unsanctioned Wildwood Event.
On Friday, April 21st, an Instagram account started advertising an unsanctioned event titled The Wildwood Beach Linkup.
This account, called for a beach party on May 12th and 13th from 12 to “whenever” saying that there will be dance battles, twerking contests, boxing matches beer pong, and to Bring Your Own Bottles.
While organizing a gathering of people in Wildwood is not against the law, concern arises when such gatherings promote unlawful activities, such as BYOB (Bring Your Own Bottles), especially when its to those under the age of 21 and on the beach.

By Friday evening the event started to spread but not before Cape May County Prosecutor’s office put out a press release.
It went on to say;
“If it appears the organizers continue promoting the event, the local police will do all within their legal authority to prevent the event from happening. If it does begin to take place, law enforcement will utilize all the appropriate resources and take the proper legal steps necessary to shut down the event.
Law enforcement will also criminally charge and/or issue citations to any organizers or participants who violate our state laws and local ordinances.”
Cape May County Prosecutor’s office took it a step further and sent the owner of the Instagram account a cease and desist letter.
While the letter wasn’t sent out publicly, the owner of the Instagram account posted a photo of it online blocking out his name.
The Wildwood Video Archive was able to obtain the said letter and has posted it below.
“It has recently come to our attention that you are currently engaged in the promotion of an event in the City of Wildwood, New Jersey, scheduled for May 12 and May 13. I have enclosed a copy of the advertisement for your reference.”
“Be advised that the City of Wildwood has not issued a special event permit for the advertised event and that the promotion of such an event is in violation of the City Ordinances and local rules and regulations.”
“The City, therefore, demands that you CEASE AND DESIST the publication and/or dissemination of any promotional material for events in the City of Wildwood that have not secured the proper special event permits.”
“The City further demands that you post the below retraction on any social media site where you, or anyone else associated with the promotion of this event, have advertised or promoted this event: “The City of Wildwood Event previously advertised is CANCELLED.”
“There will be no mass-gatherings, large group meet-ups or similar events Without permits in the City of Wildwood. It is ILLEGAL to attempt to take over and exclude others from public or private property.”
“Failure to issue the aforementioned retraction by the close of business on Friday, April 21, 2023, will result in legal action Anyone promoting, advertising, or encouraging these events will be held financially responsible.”
The owner of the group has been letting people know that the event has been canceled but many visitors have been wondering if this group will still show up on their advertised weekend.
By reading in the comments, it looks like many of the participants, after being warned by the police, are not planning to visit.
Along with the fact that the city will not step up patrols that weekend, visitors have nothing to worry about.
