It’s the question on everyone’s mind as Labor Day Weekend comes and goes: “When does the Wildwood Boardwalk close for the season?”
While you’d think it’s a simple answer, the reality is a bit more complicated. The Wildwood Boardwalk is made up of hundreds of small businesses that operate on their own schedule.

When Does The Wildwood Boardwalk Close For The Season?
First things first, the actual Wildwood Boardwalk never really closes. Whether it’s a scorching summer day or a snow-covered winter afternoon, you can always take a stroll down the boards.
In fact, it’s become a bit of a local tradition to walk the boardwalk during a snowstorm and see the rides and attractions blanketed in snow.
However, it needs to be said that there will be sections of the boardwalk closed as they will be going through major renovations.
Those sections include Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue and Burke Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue in Wildwood and between 16th and 18th Avenues in North Wildwood.
The Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction will start on October 7th while the North Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction will start later on in the Fall. (These should be done by the first week of May).

When does Morey’s Piers Close for the 2024 Season?
The real question is about the businesses, shops, and rides along the boardwalk, particularly Morey’s Piers.
Morey’s is the largest operator on the boardwalk, running three main piers with rides and attractions: Surfside Pier, Adventure Pier, and Mariner’s Pier, along with two water parks.
For 2024, Morey’s Piers has released their end-of-season dates, and here’s what you need to know:
- Surfside Pier: The last day Was Labor Day.
- Ocean Oasis Water Park: Last day Was Labor Day.
- Adventure Pier: Extreme Rides to be open weekend until September 8th
- Raging Waters Water Park: Closes Tuesday, September 3rd.
- Mariner’s Pier: The big holdout, remaining open until Sunday, October 13th. This pier is open for weekends only starting September 13th, featuring their annual Oktoberfest celebration.
So if you’re looking to hit the rides or splash around in a water park, mark those dates on your calendar!
What About the Wildwood Boardwalk Shops and Restaurants?
Now, the shops, restaurants, and smaller attractions along the boardwalk don’t have set closing dates like Morey’s Piers. Instead, they typically follow the lead of Morey’s and the island’s event schedule.
Since Surfside Pier closed on Labor Day Weekend and Adventure Pier a bit later on we might see some businesses packing it in a bit earlier due to lower foot traffic.
However, many spots will stay open through key fall events, like North Wildwood’s Irish Festival happening the weekend of September 19th-22nd.
Some businesses might even stay open through Columbus Day Weekend (October 14th), but after that, it’s usually lights out for most places until the next season.
Which Wildwood Boardwalk Businesses are Open Year-Round?
Not everything shuts down! You’ll still find some places open year-round, like Gateway 26, the Retro Arcade, and the Fudge Kitchen. (and more are expected to stay open)
These staples keep a bit of the boardwalk spirit alive even in the off-season.
