Wildwood Boardwalk Blackout Cause Revealed
The Wildwood Boardwalk faced another power outage this summer, marking the second instance of such disruption.
The incident occurred around 3:30pm, affecting visitors on Morey’s Piers Mariners Pier and resulting in an emergency stop for some rides. Notably, the Sea Serpent Roller Coaster and Morey’s Giant Wheel (Ferris Wheel) were the primary rides impacted by the blackout.

Responding promptly, Morey’s Pier’s safety team sprang into action to ensure the safety of the guests on the stranded rides. The Sea Serpent Coaster faced a particularly challenging situation, with its train positioned atop the Southern chain hill.
To ensure guests’ safety, the train was manually released, allowing it to glide down in front of the loop. Crews then facilitated the safe disembarkation of passengers onto the pier.

At no time was any of Morey’s Piers guests in any kind of danger. Morey’s Piers’ rides are designed to have safety features in them for situations such as these.
By 7 pm, Morey’s Piers communicated the restoration of power to Mariner’s Pier through an online message. Although food and game locations were opening, temporary closure due to prevailing weather conditions was announced. There were some thunderstorms that rolled in the area and caused some minor flooding on the island. These were all not related to the power outage.

The central concern remains the cause behind this latest boardwalk blackout. Eyewitnesses reported an incident involving a transformer situated at the junction of Schellenger and Pacific avenues.

The transformer was observed emitting sparks before culminating in a sizable explosion-like noise. Witnesses said that there was a loose wire on the street after the loud noise was heard.

Atlantic City Electric did make certain that this incident does not have anything to do with the incident that took place back in July. The main cause of the incident is still under investigation by ACE.
A special thank you needs to go out to the Morey’s Piers Staff and our first responders for keeping us safe during these kinds of incidents.
