Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Moves Forward Fast
Wildwood’s beloved boardwalk is once again undergoing a facelift this winter. With three distinct rehabilitation projects dubbed Phases III, IV, and V, the city is gearing up to enhance the iconic boardwalk experience for everyone.
Fred M. Schiavone Construction Leads the Way
Leading the charge in these revitalization efforts is Fred M. Schiavone Construction, a company with a proven track record, having completed phases of the construction in prior years. With their expertise and dedication, Wildwood’s boardwalk is well on its way to a brighter, more vibrant future for generations to come.
Cedar Ave Boardwalk Reconstruction Takes Center Stage
One of the highlights of this revitalization effort is the complete replacement of the Cedar Ave portion. Set to feature a brand-new timber-framed boardwalk, the project has already seen the completion of timber piles and framing. Currently, crews are hard at work installing the decking.
Alongside the new boardwalk, residents and visitors can expect to see fresh signage lining the gateway, with plans underway to install new lighting from Schellenger to Cedar on the boardwalk.
Oak to Schellenger Ave Repairs Nearing Completion
Progress along the stretch from Oak to Schellenger Ave is steadily moving forward, with approximately 90% of the deteriorated timber framing repairs already finished. The remaining section is eagerly awaiting the delivery of materials, slated to arrive on-site within the next week.
Schellenger to Spicer Ave Rehabilitation Brings Renewal
In the Oak to Spicer Ave section, extensive rehabilitation efforts are underway. Crews are focusing on the existing concrete substructure, conducting necessary repairs and applying a fresh protective coating. Additionally, a completely new timber-framed superstructure and decking are set to breathe new life into this part of the boardwalk.
Exciting Progress and Future Phases
With construction progressing as planned across all three areas, the completion date is set for the beginning of May. This extends the recent boardwalk renovations from 26th Ave down to Spicer Ave, promising an enhanced experience for all who stroll along its iconic planks.
Meanwhile, future phases are already in the planning stages, ensuring that the boardwalk’s transformation continues in the years to come.
Street End Improvements and ADA Access Ramps Enhance Accessibility
In addition to the boardwalk renovations, the city has also prioritized Street End Improvements and ADA access ramps at Spicer and Maple Avenues.

This comprehensive project not only aims to beautify these areas but also improve functionality. Expect to see new sidewalks, landscape gardens, benches, bike racks, pedestrian access tunnels under the boardwalk, and ADA access ramps on the ocean side of the boardwalk.
The project, which kicked off recently, is expected to wrap up in June.
Government Support Fuels Progress
Governor Murphy has been instrumental in the boardwalk’s reconstruction over the past three years. Earlier this year, he signed New Jersey’s $100 Million Boardwalk Preservation Fund into law, providing crucial support for projects like Wildwood’s. In 2021, the governor allocated an initial $4 million in state funding for Wildwood, building upon previous support from the U.S. Economic Development Administration, which unveiled a grant of $3.2 million, complemented by $845,000 in local funds.
