Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project Phases 6 & 7 Announced
The City of Wildwood is gearing up to continue its journey of rehabbing the Wildwood Boardwalk, section by season. Going into its fourth year, we are going to see seven blocks of the boardwalk refurbished.
The announcement came in the form of a Public Notice submitted by the Municipal Clerk of Wildwood.
Wildwood had announced that sealed proposals for the 2024 Boardwalk Rehabilitation: Phase VI & VII will be received and publicly opened on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Commissioners Meeting Room, City Hall, 4400 New Jersey Avenue.
Looking at the proposal, these sections will be rebuilt exactly like phase V which was from Schellenger Ave to Spicer Ave.
Project Details
The comprehensive project is divided into two phases:
- Phase VI: This phase will cover the stretch from Spicer Avenue to Montgomery Avenue. The scope of work includes:
- Removal and replacement of existing timber portions.
- Upgrading the boardwalk railings and lighting.
- Removal of old concrete trolley slabs.
- Repairing the concrete substructure.
- Reconstructing timber boardwalk outcrops and installing new timber stairs.
- Phase VII: This phase extends from Burke Avenue to Rio Grande Avenue and will involve:
- Complete demolition and removal of the existing boardwalk and substructure.
- Construction of a new boardwalk with updated timber piles, girders, framing, and decking.

Timeline and Construction
The City of Wildwood will award one contract for this extensive project, with the anticipated Notice to Proceed being issued approximately two weeks after the bid opening.
On-site construction is slated to begin on October 7, 2024, and substantial completion is expected by May 9, 2025. The total construction duration is set for 215 calendar days.
Widening the Wildwood Boardwalk
It should be noted that this project has nothing to do with the recent CAFRA application which could see the widening of the Wildwood Boardwalk from Schellenger Ave to Cresse Ave.
That project has only just been submitted, and most likely, we won’t see any construction on it, if it is approved, until Fall of 2025.
In our latest video on the Wildwood Video Archive YouTube channel, we detailed what the Wildwood Boardwalk Widening Project would look like. You can watch the video at the bottom of this article.
Future Phases of the Wildwood Boardwalk
After Phases 6 and 7 of the Wildwood Boardwalk are completed, more than likely, in the fall of 2025 into the Spring of 2026 we will see the remaining sections of the Wildwood Boardwalk refurbished.
This last section, which will be named Phases 8 and 9, will be a straight shot from Rio Grand Ave all the way down to the end of Cresse Ave.
North Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction
Remember that the Wildwood Boardwalk does run through two different cities, Wildwood and North Wildwood. North Wildwood does plan on doing its own version of the Wildwood Boardwalk reconstruction project. Their approach will be a bit different but will still have the same outcome.
Starting this fall, crews in North Wildwood will rip up 16th-18th Street and do the same refurbishment as listed above. The major difference is that they are started at the end of the boardwalk and will make their way to 26th Street.
North Wildwood doesn’t have as many streets as Wildwood. North Wildwood only has 10 blocks of the boardwalk to work on while Wildwood had roughly about 28.
