Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier Expansion Updated Timeline
As we’re inching closer and closer to summer 2026, people are getting excited to get on the beach and enjoy all the amazing summertime activities. But one of the biggest projects everyone’s looking forward to is the Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier expansion.
You may recall it was back in December that the Wildwood Video Archive announced that the Cape May County Board of Commissioners had approved a $2.5 million commitment to help support the long-planned replacement and expansion of the Heather Road Fishing Pier in Wildwood Crest.

Wildwood Crest Fishing Pier Expansion Updated Timeline
This pier, over the past few years, had been known as the “Fishing Pier to Nowhere,” as for quite some time this fishing pier has been landlocked. Something like this has happened before, which has caused other expansion projects to take place, and it looks like very soon we will see another expansion project begin again.
And there is good news, because after speaking to the mayor of Wildwood Crest, we now have a timeline. Currently, the borough is in the design stage, with an anticipated date of this summer for bids going out. This would be early summer.
The project would then start after summer and extend into 2027, but it should be completed before summer of 2027.
Now it comes down to how far they will go out to sea. The city is planning to expand the pier at least 1,000 feet into the water, but depending on the bids that come in, we could see that length extended to 1,250 feet or potentially even 1,500 feet.

The new pier will also keep the current footprint of the existing pier, just with all new wood and necessary structural components. The extension of the pier will be 12 feet wider, which is double the width of the current pier.
Besides the pier getting wider and longer, the project also has upgraded lighting, built-in benches, order stations, and signs all planned, including a massive arch and steps down to the beach.
The fishing pier has always been a key part of the Wildwood Crest beachfront experience, and bringing it back out over the water will completely change how people use that area again.

If everything stays on schedule, this could be one of the biggest upgrades the Crest has seen in quite some time.
