Wildwood Crest Moving Ahead With Centennial Park Upgrades Ahead of Summer Season

Wildwood Crest Moving Ahead With Centennial Park Upgrades Ahead of Summer Season

If you’ve spent any time in Wildwood Crest over the past two decades, there’s a good chance you’ve walked through Centennial Park. It’s one of the town’s go-to spots for concerts and events Now, after nearly 20 years, the borough is finally giving it a refresh.

The Borough announced this week that improvements are officially scheduled for Centennial Park, located at Fern Road and Ocean Avenue, with work set to roll out in phases starting before the end of April.

Phase One Focused on Safety and Appearance

The first phase is moving quickly, with a goal of wrapping up before Memorial Day weekend. That timing is key, especially as the shore ramps up for its busiest stretch of the year.

Here’s what’s planned in this initial round:

  • New bollards for added protection and traffic control
  • Upgraded concrete sidewalks
  • Decorative, double-sided paver walls
  • Restoration of any areas disturbed during construction

Mayor Don Cabrera made it clear this isn’t just about looks.

“Centennial Park is nearly 20 years old and is in need of some improvements,” Cabrera said. “This work not only will improve the look of the park but will also make it safer for those using or attending events and activities at the park.”

Expect Temporary Closures (and a heads up)

If you’re planning a visit in the next few weeks, you’ll want to plan around construction.

Officials are asking residents and visitors to stay out of the park while work is underway. There could also be temporary closures along the beachfront bike path near the park, depending on construction activity.

The work is being handled by Think Pavers Hardscaping LLC, with engineering oversight from DeBlasio & Associates.

The second phase won’t impact this summer season but is already in the pipeline. That portion of the project is expected either right after summer wraps up or before the 2027 season begins.

That phase will focus on lighting upgrades, particularly around the stage area and throughout the park.

This is one of those projects that’s been needed for a while. Centennial Park has been a centerpiece for Wildwood Crest events, especially free concerts, and it’s starting to show its age.

The borough is clearly trying to strike a balance here. Get the major work done before the crowds arrive, then finish the rest in the offseason.

If everything stays on schedule, visitors this summer should see a cleaner, safer, and slightly upgraded version of one of the Crest’s most popular gathering spots.
