On the night of Sunday, September 15, 2024, Wildwood Police arrested Bernard Burton, 40, of Wildwood, following an investigation into illegal narcotics distribution.
The arrest occurred after police received an anonymous tip at approximately 10:23 p.m. indicating that Burton was distributing drugs from a pickup truck in the area of the Wildwood Housing Authority.
Wildwood Man Arrested on Multiple Drug and Weapon Charges
Officers located the vehicle, registered in New Jersey, parked in the 100 block of West Schellenger Avenue.
Though unoccupied at the time, officers observed an electronic scale, commonly used for weighing controlled substances, in plain view inside the truck.
Shortly after officers arrived, Burton returned to the vehicle and was immediately taken into custody for possession of drug paraphernalia.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a large quantity of illegal drugs, including cocaine, heroin, methadone, alprazolam, and gabapentin, as well as drug packaging materials.

In addition, a semi-automatic Glock 23 handgun with a high-capacity magazine containing twelve rounds of ammunition was found and submitted into evidence.
Burton now faces multiple charges, including:
- 2nd-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon
- 2nd-degree Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purpose
- 3rd-degree Possession of Cocaine
- 3rd-degree Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine
- 3rd-degree Possession of Heroin
- 3rd-degree Possession of Methadone
- 3rd-degree Possession of Alprazolam
- 3rd-degree Possession of Prescription Legend Drugs
- 3rd-degree Distribution of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) within 500 feet of a Public Place
- 4th-degree Distribution of CDS Paraphernalia with Intent to Distribute
- 4th-degree Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine

Burton is currently being held at the Cape May County Correctional Center in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines and Criminal Justice Bail Reform Policies.
Authorities stress that all charges are based on probable cause and that Burton is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
