Wildwood Motel Looks to Expand

For the first time in quite some years, the Wildwoods are expected to gain some new hotel rooms between seasons 2023 and 2024.

Over the past few decades, the Wildwoods have seen a significant decline in the number of motels rooms available to tourists.

A variety of factors have contributed to this trend, including changing travel preferences, increased competition from alternative lodging options, and the retirement of motel owners.

One key factor in the decline of Wildwood’s motels has been the rise in the high operating costs associated with running a motel, including rising property taxes, maintenance and repair costs, and staffing expenses.

As these costs have continued to rise, many motel owners have been forced to sell their properties which were torn down for condos or the motel turned into a condotel.

This summer we will see three new motels/hotels open in the Wildwoods, the Madison Resort Wildwood Crest and the Seaport Suites, located where the old Fairview Nightclub once stood, and the Hotel Cabana.

The Wildwoods will also see the grand opening of 6 Unique, 2-Bedroom Luxury Cottages from MudHen.

Once opened the Wildwoods will see over 200 new units added to the open market for visitors to enjoy,

There is another motel that recently reopened after being closed for many years that will be expanding.

According to public records, the applicant at 4110 Atlantic Avenue, plans to “demolish and remove the existing dilapidated one story dwelling building to the rear of the property and to replace same with a new construction four story, four-unit dwelling building.”

This is the address to the Coastal Sands Inn, which rebranded from the Sea Foam back in 2021.

Its owners put the motel through a massive renovation which the entire motel remodel.

The application wants to increase the number of motel/hotel units on the property to 32 and increase the number of parking spaces to 39.

The building in question looked to be the home of the original home of the owner. If memory serves us correctly, during the summers this building would be rented out as a full house on a weekly basis.

While 4 units isn’t a large number, it’s refreshing to see so many projects include adding motel units rather than seeing motels being demolished. 

Coastal Sands Inn’s application will be voted on by the next Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board on April 3rd.
