On January 3, 2023, at approximately 10:49 PM, the Wildwood Police Department received a report of two individuals sleeping in a parked vehicle at a Wawa located at 418 West Rio Grande Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Cristine Pagan-Perez, 35, and Kenneth Lopez-Atiles, 29, both from North Cape May, NJ, slumped over in their seats. Suspected controlled dangerous substance (CDS) paraphernalia, including a spoon with burnt residue, was also visible in plain view.

The officers believed that both individuals were experiencing a narcotics overdose, and contacted the Wildwood Fire Department for assistance. Fortunately, both individuals regained consciousness on their own, but the Fire Department remained on the scene as a precautionary measure.

During the investigation, both Pagan-Perez and Lopez-Atiles admitted to being in possession of CDS paraphernalia and suspected CDS cocaine and heroin. A subsequent search of their vehicle revealed over six hundred bags of suspected CDS heroin and cocaine, as well as more than two thousand dollars in cash.

The evidence found in the vehicle led the officers to believe that the individuals were actively engaged in the distribution of illegal narcotics.

Lopez-Atiles was also charged with two counts of third-degree possession of CDS cocaine and heroin, second-degree possession with the intent to distribute CDS heroin, and possession of CDS paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense.

They were held in the Cape May County Correctional Center in accordance with the Attorney General Guidelines and Criminal Justice Bail Reform Policies and Directives.

It is important to note that both individuals have been charged based on probable cause and are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
