We have some cool Wildwood related news coming out of California today.

Nick Macko, who was a lifeguard on the North Wildwood Beach Patrol from 1999 until 2010, has been doing great things on the West coast.

This past Thursday Macko was awarded the “Lifeguard Medal Of Valor,” for an incredible save he made.

There is a full video on his achievement at the bottom of this video but here are the highlights.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department was called in for an after hour ocean rescue. The Macko arrived on the scene just minutes after LACFD did and he jumped right into this gear.

The swimmer was located in a cave in which Macko had to climb down. With Macko’s decades of experience he directed the LACFD on what he would need once he got down into the cave.

Macko found the swimming holding on to a rock. He tied him to his lifeguard can and swam him out.

For actions the LA County awarded him the “Lifeguard Medal Of Valor.”

Check out the video of the rescue below.
