Earlier this week we reported that Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, which is located at 600 Boardwalk in the Ocean City boardwalk, could be facing sheriff’s auction. Click the link below to read that article.

Now this morning it’s neighboring competitor, Playland’s Castaway Cove had caught fire.

Roughly around 8 this morning a 911 phone was placed saying that fire was coming out of a structure at 1020 block of the Boardwalk. When first responders arrived they raised the fire alarm to 4-Alarm fire.

A 4-Alarm fire is when firemen call out to other fire departments to help tackle the fire from many different angles. In this case departments all over Cape May County made their way to help fight this.

Looking at videos and photos we can see that the fire started in the entrance building with the giant pirate ship on it.

Due to the quick responce of all the fire departments they were able to contain the fire to just a few buildings, Hamburger Construction Company& arcade, in the front of the pier. Via the photos it looks like the rides weren’t touched by the fire.

At this time there are no reports of injuries.

We say it a lot on this channel but thank you so much to our amazing fire responders. They put their lives at risk everyday to help protect us!

UPDATE: As of 11am, fire officials got the situation under control. The wind helped push the fire away from the rides and towards the beach. The bulk of the damage was at the shops up front. The arcade and entrance received the most damage which leads those to believe that the fire started there[Not confirmed]. Six other businesses have received damage. If winds had shifted the other way then damage could had been worse.

Be sure to tune back later for more details as they are released.
