911 Call Results in Evacuation of Wildwood Amusement Piers

For the past few days, we had been updating you on a situation that took place Sunday, June 6, 2021, on the Wildwood Boardwalk. It was around 8:30 pm when we first started hearing reports that the amusement piers of the Wildwood Boardwalk were getting evacuated.

911 Call Results in Evacuation of Wildwood Amusement PiersThe evacuation of Wildwood Amusement Piers created rumors. While some of the rumors seemed creditable after listening to the police blotter we decided to hold off on breaking the news story so that we don’t interfere with the police investigation.

Late last night the Wildwood Police Department put out a press release briefly detailing this situation.

According to a press release put out by the Wildwood Police Department; “on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at approximately 7:40 PM, the Wildwood Police Department received a 911 call in which a caller made a threat directed at amusement piers on the Wildwoods Boardwalk. Due to the nature of the threat, the piers were evacuated as a precautionary measure.”

From 7:40 pm until 12:30 am, the piers were searched by K9 units which deemed the piers safe. The evacuations were lifted and the piers properly shut down for the night.

Wildwood Police Department did this extensive search with assistance from the Atlantic City Police Department, Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department, Cape May County Sheriff’s Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Ocean City Police Department, New Jersey State Police, and the Cape May County CBRNE Unit.

We want to give a BIG thank you out to our hard-working first responders.

This isn’t the first time a bomb threat has been called on a New Jersey boardwalk. Just last week the same thing happened at Point Pleasant’s boardwalk and just yesterday Rowan University had the same thing happen there too.

While the situations are similar, there isn’t any publicly known connection.

Tune back later for more details.
