Wildwood Bans Alcohol on the Beach
Wildwood, renowned as one of the Jersey Shore’s most popular destinations, has taken a firm stance on alcohol consumption along its picturesque beaches. In a recent move, the Wildwood commissioners revamped an existing ordinance, effectively banning “the consumption, display, or possession of alcohol on the beach and boardwalk.”
Evidently, the permissiveness towards drinking alcohol on the beach—traditionally a “look-the-other-way” matter along the entire Jersey Shore—had created a certain level of confusion among beachgoers.
Beachgoers would discreetly pour their beverages into red plastic cups or skillfully conceal them within foam beer koozies, aiming to leave the beach at the end of the day without any telltale signs of their indulgence.

The revised ordinance now encompasses all types of containers, irrespective of whether they are open or closed.
Wildwood’s decision to tighten its restrictions on alcohol aligns with similar actions taken by neighboring towns like Sea Isle City and Ocean City to curb the behavior of unruly teenagers.
The new regulations in Wildwood categorize underage drinking, alcohol possession, and other infractions as “breach of peace” violations.
Those found in violation of the new alcohol ban in Wildwood could potentially be subjected to substantial penalties, including fines reaching as high as $2,000 and a maximum jail term of 90 days. However, it is important to note that for first-time offenders, the authorities are expected to adopt a more lenient approach.
Offenders in this category are likely to receive verbal warnings and be requested to promptly dispose of their alcoholic beverages or return them to their vehicles, hotels, or residences. The intention behind these measures is not to overly penalize vacationers but rather to ensure compliance with the newly implemented regulations.
The updated alcohol laws in Wildwood will not hinder the operations of bars situated along the boardwalk or events that have obtained the necessary permits for alcohol consumption on the beach.

These establishments and organized functions will continue to operate within the framework of the existing regulations.
Scheduled to take effect on June 13, the revised ordinance is aimed at creating a safer and more regulated environment for beachgoers in Wildwood. By implementing these measures, the local authorities seek to enhance the overall experience of visitors and ensure a greater sense of security and orderliness throughout the beach and boardwalk areas.
