First LOOK – Wind Farms Off Of New Jersey

First LOOK – Wind Farms Off Of New Jersey

The one thing we haven’t spoken about on this blog is the future of wind farms off the coast of South Jersey.

Since there is a chance that it will be visible from Ocean City New Jersey all the way down to Wildwood Crest, let’s talk about the future of this project.

The state of New Jersey has a goal that they want to produce 7,500 MW of electricity via offshore wind energy by 2035.

The Ocean Wind project, which is a codeword from this wind farm, would be the first of its kind in New Jersey and created in partnership with Ørsted and PSEG.

It will be located 15 miles off the coast of southern New Jersey. The closed island it will sit off of is Ocean City.

To give you a more idea of how far/close this project will sit here is a distance chart.

  • 33.88 miles away from the Cape May Lighthouse

  • 23.61 miles away from the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse

  • 17.84 miles away from the Sea Isle City Promenade

  • 15.54 miles away from the Ocean City Boardwalk

  • 16.04 miles away from the Atlantic City Beachfront.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management uploaded some images to show us how the wind farms will look from our beaches.

For the most part in Cape May and Wildwood, we won’t really see them but those who visit Atlantic City and Ocean City will be visual to them.

To give you a better understanding of how they will be seen, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management uploaded these renderings.

The top shows Atlantic City and the bottom shows Ocean City.
