Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project – Update Jan 2022
It’s time once again for another update on the Wildwood Boardwalk Reconstruction Project. At the bottom of this page, there is a video where you can see the update.
For those who don’t know, the Wildwood Boardwalk is going through a 5-year project that could see the entire boardwalk renovated.
This section of the boardwalk that is getting renovated is from Oak to Myrtle Ave.
Since our last update in mid-December ago much process has taken place.
All of the tram car concrete sidewalks have been removed from the boardwalk and taken away.
Many folks asked us what would happen to these slabs. A few things could happen such as them being ground up for reuse or dumped in the sea to help create homes for fish.
Since there are no tram car supports the contractors had to create new ones. This is done by building scaffolding under the boardwalk, placing a concrete mold on top, adding rebar to the mold, and then pouring concrete on top.
The contractors had to create 150 of these new supports.
Once the supports are complete they then level out the concrete before laying 4x6s across the concrete.
The 4x6s are the bottom level of wood. After they are laid the 2x4s will be laid in the other direction.
Things are shaping up for them to be done by May.
