Wildwood Police To Enforce Boardwalk Bicycle Rules
Wildwood Police To Enforce Boardwalk Bicycle Rules
Last year, the city of Wildwood made changes to the “General Beach and Boardwalk Regulations.”
Wildwood Police To Enforce Boardwalk Bicycle Rules
That ordinance stated that “bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and the like are prohibited from operating on the boardwalk from June 15 – September 14, between the hours of 1:00 PM and 5:00, AM daily.”
Prior to this, you had to be off before the train cars started running on the boardwalk.
There had been many complaints about people riding bikes during peak hours. This would sometimes create issues in sections of the boardwalk where guests are in crowds.
To help fix this the Wildwood Police Department will start enforcing the ordinance on Tuesday, June 15.
In a press release, the city says that “those operating bicycles during prohibited hours will be asked to leave the boardwalk at the nearest exit [and] those who ignore this request or who are repeat violators will be issued a summons.”
The press release doesn’t mention the price of the summons but the state code, 39:4-11 to 4:12, says that “Violations concerning bicycles and roller skates” will be given a ticket of $55.
As a reminder, motorized vehicles, including motorized scooters, motorized bicycles, and hoverboards, are not permitted on the boardwalk at any time.
This shall not include wheelchairs, mobility aids, and other power-driven mobility devices as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”).
Please be sure to not lock bicycles to railings on the boardwalk. Securing bicycles under the boardwalk is permitted.
Tune back later for more details.
On a complete side note; did you know that in the “Decency Standards for the Boardwalk of the City of Wildwood” there is a regulated code that requires everyone to wear a shirt that covers the “pectoral area” between the hours of 8:00 p.m.-5:00 a.m?
