Frank Theaters In Rio Grande Files For Bankruptcy

This might be a national story but this effects most of us here in the very bottom of South Jersey.

It was announced that Frank Theaters, which owns 20+ theaters on the East Coast have filed for bankruptcy.   Frank Theaters owns two local locations one at the Rio Stadium in Rio Grande NJ and a second,  South Cove Stadium 12 in Bayonne NJ.

This news doesn’t come well for some of us as this is one of the only chain theaters in our area. This leaves us with the closes chain theater in Cumberland NJ (that’s almost a 50 minute drive).

At one point in time Wildwood used to be littered with some of the best movie theaters in the state.

We had a Drive-In Theater, The Wildwood Twin Drive-In, which was built in Middle Township (July 1950)  Strand Theater (May 1947), the The Shore Theatre/ Shore Twin (November 1939) The Blaker Theatre (Early 1900s) and the Sea Theatre (1915).

Now with the announcement that Frank Theaters is filing for bankruptcy we wonder what will happen if we were to lose such a chain to our area.
