The Coast Guard Saves Fishing Crew

The Coast Guard has been quite busy these past two weeks.

Just last week Cape May Coast Guard saved the crew of the fishing vessel, Ocean Pearl. You can read about that rescue below.

NJ Coast Guard Rescues Fishing Crew

Monday night the fishing boat Capt Garland was 50 miles east of Cape May, NJ when they started to sink. The 77-foot trawler had taken on three feet of water in the rough Atlantic Ocean.

The Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon alerted the Fifth District command center watchstanders in Portsmouth, Virginia and they dispatched the Coast Guard Cutter Lawrence Lawson.

The Lawson’s crew took to a small boat once once on the scene to bring over two dewatering pumps. After an hour they were able to make the Garland stable enough to be towed back to Cape May.

There is no news on the source of the flooding but it was a success for the Coast Guard as there were no loss of life or property.

Thank you to our amazing Coast Guard members!!!! You are the best!!
