North Wildwood To Get Beach Replenishment This Year
It’s no secret that North Wildwood’s beaches have been shrinking every year. All of New Jersey’s coastal communities have been dealing with some kind of beach erosion on a level that hasn’t been seen before.
Beach erosion happens when the ocean current moves the sand down the coastline. When bigger storms happen larger chunks are misplaced.
Beach erosion is something not to be messed with. When a beach shrinks it removes a natural protective barriers to the houses and businesses on the island. Without a strong beach, that water could come up and destroy millions of dollars of property.
In the case of North Wildwood, the sand is pulled down the coastline and deposited on the Wildwood and Wildwood Crest beaches.
North Wildwood has been recreative in trying to stop this destruction from erosion and it’s by borrowing sand or returning it to its home.
For the past six years, North Wildwood has been taking sand from Wildwood by the truckload and driving it up the beach into North Wildwood.

According to North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello, The City of North Wildwood will be replenishing its beaches once again this year. Starting this month sand will once again be taken from Wildwood and moved. This will cost just over $3 million.
The details are still being worked out but if the project is like last year the borrowing zones will be Bennett to Pine Avenue.
This kind of process is a temporary fix, but North Wildwood is hoping to work with the Federal government for a more permanent fix.
One new addition to the beach this year to help protect properties will be the new bulkhead.
This bulkhead will replace the current one that runs from 5th-7th Avenues. It will also include bulkhead rocks and a 16-foot tall dune.
