Earth Day is such an important day of the year for beach towns like ours. It’s the one day of year where people from each end of the country come together to clean up their towns and environment.
We are luckily enough in the wildwoods to have many opportunities to do such cleanups from great organizations such as Love Blue and North Wildwood Beach Beautification Brigade.
Through-out the year these two groups hold cleanups monthly which take in massive trash bags full each round.
While we do have the cleanest and largest beaches in the state of New Jersey, sometimes debris wash up on-shore from the vast ocean.
For those who don’t know, every day during the summer season the city has they massive machines that rake up the sand.
In those rakes they pick up everything from bottles to left over sand-castle building tools.
Smaller objects like cigarettes and bottle caps sometimes get through this system.
These organizations see these items the most.
On Friday April 22nd, which is Earth day, join Love Blue as they go out to collect trash from the beach.
Love Blue’s Earth Day Beach Cleanup will start at 5:15pm and will take place on Rambler Road in Wildwood Crest
There is a BIG incentive to join in on the cleanup because everyone who helps will get 15% off at Mudhen!
So come by and save the earth, plus get some drinks at a discount!
Something to keep in mind for the future. One thing we were taught as young surfers down here is that the first thing you should do when you get to the beach is pick up three pieces of trash. This takes 1 minute which could lead to pounds of trash a year being cleaned up from the beach.
