No one ever wants to pay for New Jersey tolls, but some folks maybe have been charged extra for their normal commute without even knowing it.

36,000 daily commuters, roughly 4,000 per day, were overcharged by E-Zpass on the parkway according to the state.
Drivers who went through the Great Egg Harbor toll plaza in Atlantic County who were going through a car at a car price were charged as a truck.
The price difference between the two is roughly $2 extra. The car price is $1.96. and a truck price is $3.92
After an investigation, the malfunction was traced back to just one traffic booth in the Great Egg Harbor toll plaza.
The reason it was happening was that a cable tie on the gantry overhang snapped causing a cable to hang down in front of the sensor.
Every time a car would go through this wire would cause the system to register the car as a truck.
This glitch only happened between September 20 and September 29. The good news though, is if you were one of the victims, E-Zpass will already automatically adjust your bill.
According to E-Zpass, this adjustment in your bill should be coming this week. They suggest that you go through your bill to confirm that you had been credited.
Interestingly, the only reason how E-Zpass became aware of the issue was that a few people double-checked their bills and called in.
This would be a good reminder to always double-check your E-Zpass statement (and your bank statements as well).
If you were to look up this toll name on your bill, it would be abbreviated as GEG. Why these letters, that’s another mystery.
