Found Unexploded WWII Ordnances Detonated On Cape May Beach
It was surely an interesting day in Cape May yesterday. If you lived on the island or near by, you may have heard a loud explosion which would have sound like a bomb going off.
Found Unexploded WWII Ordnances Detonated On Cape May Beach
Turns out… that’s what it was!
According to the Cape May Police Department, earlier in the day two WWII unexploded ordnances were found in a yard off of Elmira Street.
The owners called 911 and the CMPD arrived on scene along with Cape May Fire Department. Some of the local residents, including our friends at Prawn, were evacuated until the Atlantic City Bomb Squad could get there to take a look at what was found.
The unexploded ordnances looks to be an M5/M6 Antitank Gunshell. These anti-tank weaponry would have been placed near by as submarines were seen from the coast line of Cape May.

Once on scene, the Atlantic City Bomb Squad loaded the ordnances into their truck and brought it down to the beach.
Once close enough to the water line, and far enough away from folks, the Bomb Squad detonated the ordnances.
Cape May Police Department wants to remind folks that if you do find things like this on your property DO NOT touch them.
Thank you to CMPD, CMFD and ACBS for an amazing job!!!
