History has truly made the Wildwoods into what it is today. From a small fishing village of Anglesea to a vacation destination, these towns have gone through so many changes.
From time to time we find some very interesting things in the library of congress. This time we stumbled upon a book about the Wildwoods titled “King’s Guide to the Wildwoods.”
It was published in 1915 and was a complete guide of the Wildwoods including a business directory and photos. Think of it as a snapshot of history on 78 pages.
Featured are ads for local businesses and details about the best fishing spots on the island.
By 1915 the boom was taking place in the Wildwoods. The Crest was founded 5 years prior and Wildwood 20 years prior and North Wildwood would be the “City of North Wildwood” by 1917.
[Note: at the bottom of this article we have a video of Wildwood from 1915]
This guide was the best way for attract tourists to our young towns and did so very successfully. Passed out from Philadelphia and New York, this book was printed thousands of times.
We plan on digitizing these photos and presenting them for you over time featuring some buildings and ads.
Today we are running with the first photos.
