Certain sections of the Wildwood Boardwalk will be going through a massive reconstruction project this off-season.
It is part of a five-year project which will see the refurbishment of different sections of the Wildwood Boardwalk.
Back in 2019, the city of Wildwood said that an ideal amount to replace and repair the Wildwood Boardwalk could cost up to $60 Million but could work with $45 Million.
On February 28th The State of New Jersey announced their budget would hold some money to help repair the Wildwood Boardwalk.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy met with Wildwood Mayor Pete Byron to tour the Wildwood Boardwalk. In the tour, which occurred after a storm ripped up sections of the boardwalk, Byron stressed the need for funding to help repair sections of the boardwalk.
While the city didn’t get the $45 Million it needed, Governor Murphy awarded the city of Wildwood $4 million for the reconstruction project this past July
The $4 million would only be enough to get the first phase of the project underway.
The city would need close to $4 million each year for the next five years to reconstruct all the trouble areas.
Phase 1 of the reconstruction of will see work done from between Pine and Maple Avenues to midway between Magnolia and Poplar Avenues.
Back in October, Feriozzi Concrete Company inc had won the bid for $3,548,177.20.
Signs that Feriozzi started the project were posted online via Facebook this week by the city of Wildwood.
In the post, the city noted that the Boardwalk will be closed from Maple Ave thru Oak Ave and that railings have been removed and fencing is up.
The city asks that you stay clear of the area during the construction.
