Ocean City Amusement Pier Heads Into Auction
As you know, we cover everything that takes place in Cape May County. For today’s article we are heading over to Ocean City New Jersey as there is a big breaking news story going on.
Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, which is located at 600 Boardwalk in the Ocean City boardwalk, could be facing sheriff’s auction.
This news comes after we learned that the amusement company failed to pay back close to 8 million dollars in debt back in 2019.
After a hard year, due in part to the pandemic and and lack of a full summer, the pier wasn’t able to pay back the loan.
First Priority Bank owns the debt on the amusement park and with orders from Judge Michael J. Bleethe part is to be auctioned off by the Cape May County Sheriff.
In a statement from Jay A. Gillian, Owner of Gillian’s Wonderland Pier, “I want to reassure our loyal guests that Wonderland Pier will be open for business, as usual, for the 2021 season.” He also adds that they have secured funding.
Gillian’s grandfather, started the amusement park 92 years ago and it’s been a staple on the Ocean City boardwalk ever since.
Our opinion, and only ours, is that we wish Morey’s could expand and maybe purchase the pier. Wouldn’t it be cool to have an Morey’s Pier Ocean City?
We do know that back in 2019, the Morey’s were quoted saying that they would like to invest some money in projects off the island. Maybe this could be it!
For now it looks like Gillian’s Wonderland Pier will open under the same management but the word won’t be final until the judge see’s Gillian’s debts paid to First Priority Bank.
Tune back later for more details.
