Around 5:49 PM last night, Spirit Airlines flight 3044, which was getting ready to depart for Fort Lauderdale, ran into issues in the middle of takeoff.
As the plane was accelerating when a large bird struck the engine.
Spirit said in the statement that “The captain braked safely and brought the plane to a stop, received an indication of damage to the engine, and ordered an evacuation in accordance with our standard procedures.”
All 100+passengers and crew members were evacuated safely. Two passengers reported minor injuries.
Plane’s Engine Catches Fire at AC Airport
After the incident, the Atlantic City airport closed as the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), investigated the incident.
The statement says that their “guests will receive full refunds, a future travel voucher, and the option of traveling to Fort Lauderdale on another plane.”
