The Shamrock was established in Wildwood, New Jersey in 1937 by the Ward, Family, from Donegal Ireland, & has been in operation for 84 years. After its closure this past year it was sold to BG Capital.
In a partnership between the house owner, Thomas Gerace, and Joe Byrne of BG Capital, they agreed to have the historic house moved.
This is a big win for preservations here in the Wildwoods.
According to Taylor Henry from the Wildwoods Historical Society, located at 3907 Pacific Ave, the house was built in 1900 the Berwind Hotel.
Investors Jeffrey Pellerin and Fred Davis partnered as Davis and Pellerin and built the Berwind Hotel.
In 1937 Irish immigrant Corenilus Ward bought the Berwind hotel, moved upstairs, and started the Shamrock Cafe on the ground floor.
The bar took off so well that they expanded by raising the house and adding the bar under it.
Over the past few weeks, we have been covering the work the crews have been doing by removing the bar and lowering the house. You can see that in our most recent construction update video.
Just yesterday we were informed that the Shamrock House moving would be postponed. In a message on Facebook they announced that “Due to the weather damaging and causing havoc to utility lines, the house move has been delayed and will be moved on January 19.”
We will be there on January 19 at 8am for the move!
Stay tuned for more details.
